Star Wars : The Clone Wars - 2008

The most successful franchise in history takes one more plunge into theaters before heading to the small screen, and does so quite successfully. Star Wars: The Clone Wars is fun action adventure romp that takes on an adventure set between Episode II and III of the prequel trilogy of the Star Wars saga. The main focus is on the Jedi Knights of those films as they and their cloned army comrades, struggle to bring peace and justice to the old republic. Among them is the wise negotiator Obi-Wan Kenobi, his student the brooding Anakin Skywalker, and Anakin's fresh face new pupil Ahsoka Tano. The main window into the galaxy far, far away here is Ashoka as she learns to be a Jedi and understand her place in the universe. The trio face a number of trials to secure the favor of a powerful crime lord to aid in the war effort.

The story is well laid out and delivered, with the voice cast delivering a great performance. The authenticity of having Christopher Lee, Samuel L. Jackson, and Anthony Daniels, really helps bring the animated adventure some true cinematic quality. Now, that said, while the film is a good tale on its own it never can quite shake the stigma of being a pilot episode of an upcoming TV show. Most notable the animation fumbles a few times. Hand painted textures and backgrounds make this easier to over look you still can help see the fine for TV quality that suffers from being pushed to the big screen.

For Star Wars fans this a preview of great things to come; gripping adventure, memorable characters, and light-saber duels. But those not already in love with Yoda and wookies will not find much to draw them in, and most everybody will want more than just a big screen TV special.

(Rated-PG . 98 min.)
