The Incredible Hulk - 2008

When I first heard that they were remaking Ang Lee's Hulk, I was quite blasé to say the least. The thought of getting my hopes up again for a comic book movie with a sickly low brow plot and over the top special effects is enough to make a guy cry... almost. That was until I saw the first trailer, when I immediately... felt that same way. But why? It looked alot nicer that the first one. Maybe they could make up for the mistakes in Ang's. But I've been jaded by too many films to assume for the best. So still I awaited the film, certainly not holding my breath. Finally opening day came, and much like christmas morning at age 62 with no grandchildren in sight, I shlumpped my way down to the theater with no more expectations and no reason for really being there. The film started, and I was wrong. As wrong as I had been for assuming Spider-man 3 was going to be good. The Incredible Hulk was everything a Hulk movie should be... and then some!

The film opens with Dr. Bruce Banner, Edward Norton, as a fugitive in a third world nation. He works a dead end job at a bottling plant and searches for an antidote for himself in his spare time. He has trained himself to contain his emotional rage so that the "Hulk" within himself doesn't see the light of day. The military eventually finds him and try to hunt him down to test him and make a super soldier formula from his DNA. Banner then returns to the Americas in search of his long lost love Betty Ross, Liv Tyler. Some of The Hulks DNA is taken by, who will eventually become, Leader, and transplanted into Major Emil Blonsky, Tim Roth.  Major Blonsky it mutated into the beast known as the Abomination, with only one agenda on his mind, The ultimate destruction of the Incredible Hulk!

The film may sound like a plot straight out of a comic book. To that I say hell yes! Finally, thanks to the likes of the Spider-Man and X-Men films can comic movies be just that. We no longer need to over hype them with ridiculous plots that the viewers and fans both hate. Movie producers have maybe come to their senses and found that if there is enough fan base to make a film, than most likely there is enough fans to make the film millions of dollars. All in all, the movie "The Incredible Hulk" was a nice addition to an already well formed line up by Marvel studios. It may not be as good as "Iron Man", but it sure as hell kills anything from the 1980's and older.

(Rated PG-13 - 114 min.)

I personally think it's an Own it. But I am flawed as a fanboy. lol.

BTW I just wanted to not that you said jaded by other comic movies but you didn't emphasize the pun(JADE).

P.s. Did you catch the subtle Doc Samson referance?
