Watchmen - 2009

rated R
162 min.

First question: have you read the comic?
Yes?... then why havent you seen it yet?! Oh you have and you weren't impressed? Then you're a fool!

The film is a wonderful representation of the comic into a movie. Downfalls: to do all of the information in the comic the movie would have to be 9 hours long... its not, so somethings are missing... sorry deal with it.

If you haven't read the book you're going to be lost. There's little to no back story. So go read then watch.

It's nice to see the superhero genre come to the adult audience. (P.S. crazy nudity in the flick. Dr. Manhattan and a number of "passionate" love scenes. If this bothers you, then you probably haven't read the comic either.)

Interesting note: Zack Snyder has already confirmed the DVD release will be 1 hour longer.

I watched this as a midnight premier and afterwards I was more than ecstatic about the film. However, my girlfriend and what seemed like everyone that was leaving the theatre was complaining. If it wasn't about the big blue wang it was about the changing of the ending. The only credited gripe I will allow is that Zack Snyder does tend to over-use the slow-mo.

Nessisary evils:

The fight scenes. If there weren't any extended/added fight scenes in this film, people would have been rather bored. I mean the comic it's self is isn't what I'd call a 1 sitting read.

The ending change-up. You mean to tell me that it's passible in today's culture to believe that an alien invasion/mindexplosion? No it's not. I'm not sure that the new ending is a "Better" one, but it's certainly easier to swallow.

Own it!

I agree with all that you said.
I thought the ending was fine being changed the alien was far fetched anyway. the nudity was there and i didnt think all that out of place. (aside from the owl and silk specter love scene, it got to be a bit much...)
But I'm with you man. I thought it was just fine. The complainers can go jump off a cliff on their high ivory towers they seem to have perched themselves on!

RENT IT - Flawed in someways as a stand alone film, but a must see, must own for anyone that has loved the graphic novel over the years.
